CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announced routine bridge inspections scheduled for next week on two I-40 bridges, which will require temporary lane closures on nearby state routes.
- Cumberland County: On Monday, September 22, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., crews will inspect the I-40 bridge over State Route 1 at log mile 25.68 in Crab Orchard. Lane closures will alternate between SR 1 East and West, with flaggers directing traffic. I-40 traffic will not be affected.
- Putnam County: On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., inspections will occur on the I-40 bridge over State Route 24 near the county line. Lane closures will begin on SR 24 East before shifting to SR 24 West. I-40 traffic will remain unaffected.
TDOT urges drivers to use caution in the work zones, expect delays, and check travel conditions before heading out. The schedule may change due to weather or other factors.
Motorists are reminded that Tennessee’s Move Over Law requires drivers to move over for highway workers and emergency vehicles. Violations can result in up to 30 days in jail and fines of up to $500.
