KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knoxville Police say a walking patrol in East Knoxville led to the recovery of a loaded handgun, narcotics, and thousands of dollars in suspected drug proceeds early Sunday morning.

Around 1:15 a.m. on September 21, officers with the East District and Community Engagement Response Team were patrolling the 2500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue when they noticed a 20-year-old man acting suspiciously and appearing to hide something behind a parked truck.

When approached, the man showed signs of being under the influence. Officers then discovered a loaded Glock with an extended magazine behind the truck, along with a large amount of marijuana, a suspected Oxycodone pill, and roughly $3,300 in cash.

The man was taken into custody on charges including unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of schedule VI drugs, and public intoxication.
