NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A 34-year-old Goodlettsville man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after allegedly shooting his girlfriend during a domestic disturbance at a downtown Nashville hotel early Thursday morning.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, officers responded at approximately 12:50 a.m. to the Comfort Inn located at 1501 Demonbreun Street.
Investigators said the woman, 44, told officers she and Edward Mazon had been arguing throughout Wednesday evening and into Thursday morning. She said she informed Mazon that she wanted to end their relationship and began packing her belongings to leave the hotel room.
Police said Mazon allegedly made suicidal statements during the argument. As the woman turned to carry her belongings to her vehicle, Mazon allegedly shot her in the leg before turning the gun on himself.
Mazon died at the scene from what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The woman was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators also learned that Mazon had been arrested on June 10 for violating an order of protection involving the woman.
The incident remains under investigation.
