MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Shelby County judge has found probable cause to move forward with a first-degree murder case against a Memphis man accused of fatally stabbing another man following an argument in Whitehaven.
The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office announced that Assistant District Attorney Susan Taylor successfully prosecuted the preliminary hearing for 20-year-old Jemarrion Kerr, who is charged with First-Degree Murder.
Following testimony and evidence presented by prosecutors, the court ruled there was probable cause to support the charge and ordered the case bound over to the Shelby County Grand Jury.
Prosecutors also successfully opposed a request to reduce Kerr’s bond. The judge left his bond set at $1 million, and he remains in custody.
According to prosecutors, the case stems from a fatal stabbing in the Whitehaven area.
The State alleges Kerr and the victim became involved in an argument during which the victim struck Kerr.
Rather than ending the confrontation, prosecutors allege Kerr returned to his apartment, retrieved a knife, came back to the scene, and stabbed the victim multiple times, causing the victim’s death.
During the hearing, prosecutors argued the sequence of events demonstrated premeditation, supporting the first-degree murder charge.
The case will now be presented to a Shelby County Grand Jury for further proceedings.
