Five people were shot early Saturday outside an event center on Winchester Road in Memphis, and police have charged a 24-year-old man in the case.
Memphis police said officers responded at about 2:00 a.m. on October 24 to a shooting at 3187 Winchester Road. Police took 24-year-old Kendell Catron into custody and charged him with four counts of aggravated assault.
Three victims in critical condition
Three of the people shot were listed in critical condition, according to the department. Two others were taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.
A sixth person went to the hospital with a foot injury. Police did not say how that person was hurt.
Dispute outside the venue
Preliminary information indicates the shooting stemmed from an altercation outside the event center, police said. The department called it an isolated incident.
Police did not release the names or ages of the victims. They also did not say what led to the altercation or how Catron is connected to the people who were shot. The department did not explain why the charges number four when five people suffered gunshot wounds.
Aggravated assault charges are accusations. Catron has not been convicted of any crime.
Memphis police have not said whether more arrests are expected. The department’s report number for the case is 2610027875ME.
