NASHVILLE, TN – A Metro Nashville Public Schools bus driver has been charged with DUI after police said the bus he was driving crashed into a parked vehicle while heading to pick up elementary school students.
According to the Nashville Police Department, 75-year-old Madubiri Nwoke was arrested following the crash near the intersection of Alteras and Sunnywood Drives.
Investigators said the crash occurred while Nwoke was en route to an elementary school to pick up children.
Police said responding officers detected the odor of alcohol on Nwoke’s breath and observed signs of impairment while conducting field sobriety tests.
Authorities said an adult bus assistant was the only passenger on the bus at the time of the crash. The assistant reportedly complained of dizziness following the collision.
Nwoke was taken into custody and booked after officers obtained a blood sample for laboratory analysis.
