MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two suspects, including a juvenile, have been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred during an alleged marijuana transaction in Memphis, according to the Memphis Safe Task Force.
18-year-old Jeremiah White and a 16-year-old male (unnamed because of the age) were taken into custody following a shooting on June 8 in the 7100 block of Anisetree Drive that left three people injured, one of whom later died.
Authorities said the arrests were among 32 warrants executed by the Memphis Safe Task Force during a recent enforcement operation that also resulted in the recovery of four illegal firearms.
According to investigators, officers responded to the scene after reports of a shooting and found multiple shell casings in front of a residence. Detectives learned that three victims had already been transported to Methodist North Hospital in a vehicle riddled with bullet holes.
During the investigation, one of the surviving victims told officers he had driven the other two victims to the residence to sell marijuana to White.
Investigators said White entered the victims’ vehicle and accompanied them to a store before returning to the residence. After arriving back at the home, White reportedly went inside to retrieve money for the transaction.
According to authorities, White and the juvenile later exited the residence armed with firearms. Investigators allege the juvenile pointed an AR-style pistol at the victims and ordered them not to move, while White pointed a semi-automatic handgun at them. Multiple shots were then fired at the victims before they fled the scene in their vehicle.
The Memphis Safe Task Force obtained a search warrant for the residence and subsequently arrested both suspects. During the search, investigators recovered one of the firearms believed to be connected to the shooting, along with additional evidence.
White and the juvenile have each been charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, especially aggravated robbery, two counts of attempted aggravated robbery, three counts of employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and tampering with evidence.
The investigation remains ongoing.
