CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – A Georgia fugitive wanted on felony warrants was taken into custody after leading Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a pursuit that crossed into Georgia before ending with a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, authorities said.
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, detectives with the Criminal Warrants Unit located Kennie Montieth on July 21 while attempting to serve active felony warrants issued by Walker County, Georgia.
As deputies attempted to arrest him, investigators said Montieth got into a vehicle and fled the scene, prompting a pursuit along Rossville Boulevard and onto Interstate 24.
Authorities said Montieth continued west on I-24, driving erratically before crossing the Tennessee-Georgia state line. Once traffic conditions allowed, an HCSO deputy safely performed a PIT maneuver, bringing the pursuit to an end.
Because the pursuit concluded in Georgia, Montieth was transferred to the custody of Georgia law enforcement authorities.
In Dade County, Georgia, Montieth was charged with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Improper Lane Change/Failure to Maintain Lane, No Insurance, Felony Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers by Use of Threats or Violence and Misdemeanor Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers.
Hamilton County authorities also obtained additional charges against Montieth, including Evading Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, Aggravated Assault, Driving an Unregistered Vehicle, Driving Without a License, Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane and Reckless Driving.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office said no mugshot would be released because Montieth remains in the custody of Georgia authorities. Officials directed additional inquiries regarding his booking information to the Dade County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said the information released is preliminary and subject to change.
