Nashville Greyhound Station Shooting Leaves Man Charged With Assault

Jacorey McIntosh

A security guard shot a man outside the Greyhound bus station in Nashville on Sunday morning after the man threw hot coffee in the guard’s face and attacked him, according to Metro Nashville police. The man, 22-year-old Jacorey McIntosh of Toxey, Alabama, left the hospital Sunday night and went to jail on a felony charge of aggravated assault.

A judicial commissioner set McIntosh’s bond at $10,000. Police said earlier in the day that he would face the charge once doctors discharged him. He was recovering from wounds to his hip and leg.

What the guard told detectives

Security guard Douglas West, 39, had burns and contusions to his face and head when detectives interviewed him. West told police he had ordered McIntosh to leave the bus station about 45 minutes before the attack.

The shooting happened around 7:25 a.m. West said he was talking with a co-worker when McIntosh walked up and, without provocation, threw hot coffee in his face and began hitting him.

McIntosh knocked West to the ground twice during the fight, West told detectives. A magazine for West’s firearm fell from his security vest, and West said McIntosh used it to keep striking him in the head. West said McIntosh told him he was going to kill him.

Surveillance video

A surveillance camera in the area recorded the entire incident, police said. According to the department, the footage shows McIntosh throw the coffee at West, charge at him twice, get on top of him and throw several punches.

The video then shows West get up from the ground a second time and draw a gun. Police said McIntosh makes a slight movement toward West again, and West began firing at that point.

McIntosh now faces a felony aggravated assault charge. The charge is an accusation, and McIntosh has not been convicted of anything.

The source material did not say whether West faces any charges or whether the investigation is still open.
