Gallatin Woman Sentenced to Jail, Probation in DUI Case Involving Commercial Truck

Kerry Sue Cervantes

GALLATIN, Tenn. — A Gallatin woman has been sentenced after being convicted of driving under the influence and possessing a handgun while impaired in a case involving plans to operate a commercial tractor-trailer.

Kerry Sue Cervantes was sentenced on June 24, 2026, after a jury found her guilty on May 19, 2025, of first-offense driving under the influence, possession of a handgun while under the influence, and possession of an open container.

The charges resulted from an investigation by the Gallatin Police Department.

According to prosecutors, Cervantes was driving her personal vehicle when she was arrested. Evidence presented during the trial, including body-worn camera footage, showed that Cervantes told officers she intended to drive her commercial tractor-trailer from Gallatin to Smyrna.

Prosecutors also introduced blood test results showing the presence of prescription medication in her system.

Following a sentencing hearing, Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Nichols sentenced Cervantes to 11 months and 29 days. She was ordered to serve 30 days in the Sumner County Jail, with the remainder of the sentence to be served on supervised probation.

Assistant District Attorney Brad Tracy prosecuted the case.

The Sumner County District Attorney’s Office said the case underscores the dangers of impaired driving, particularly when commercial vehicles are involved.

Officials also thanked the Gallatin Police Department for its investigation and efforts to keep roadways safe.
