MEMPHIS, TN – The Memphis Safe Task Force announced it has arrested more than 1,000 known gang members since the initiative launched in September 2025.
According to officials, gang activity involving nearly 50 gangs and neighborhood subsets in Memphis has contributed to violent crime, drug trafficking, firearms offenses, robberies, assaults, homicides, extortion, racketeering, and territorial conflicts throughout the city.
Authorities said the more than 1,000 individuals arrested all had confirmed gang affiliations or memberships and account for approximately 10 percent of all arrests made by the task force since operations began.
Officials also reported that gang member arrests represented 18 percent of homicide-related charges, 11 percent of narcotics offenses, and 10 percent of firearms-related offenses handled by the task force.
“Ousting these gang members from their neighborhoods makes communities safer and gangs weaker,” said Tyreece Miller. “The task force will continue to disrupt gang activity in Memphis by identifying, apprehending, and holding accountable those who pose a threat to public safety.”
The Memphis Safe Task Force was created in September 2025 as a multi-agency initiative focused on reducing violent crime in Memphis.
The operation includes participation from federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies along with the Tennessee National Guard.
Since its launch, officials said the task force has arrested 9,586 violent fugitives, including:
- 82 homicide suspects
- 1,058 individuals on narcotics-related charges
- 908 weapons offenders
- 105 sex offense suspects
- 1,021 known gang members
Investigators also reported seizing more than 1,622 illegal firearms and locating 150 missing children during the operation.
Authorities encourage anyone with information about wanted fugitives to submit tips through the USMS Tips app.
