NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged with criminal homicide in the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy during a fight in downtown Nashville.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, officers with the Entertainment District Unit responded at approximately 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 21, to reports of shots fired near the intersection of Rep. John Lewis Way and Deaderick Street.
When officers arrived at Union Terrace, they found 12-year-old Damarion Morehead suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He died from his injuries.
Witnesses told detectives that a group of individuals had gathered at the location for a fight. During the altercation, gunfire erupted, striking Morehead.
Following the investigation, detectives identified 24-year-old Devin Orr as the suspected shooter.
Orr was arrested the following morning at a residence on Fisk Street in Nashville and charged with criminal homicide.
He was booked into jail, where his bond was denied.
The investigation remains ongoing.
