HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. — A pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended with the arrest of a Chattanooga man and the seizure of cocaine, methamphetamine, and cash early Thursday morning.
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, an alert for a stolen vehicle was issued on June 25 near the intersection of Campbell Street and Glass Street in Chattanooga.
A Chattanooga Police Department officer located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop after a Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived to assist. Authorities said the driver fled, prompting a pursuit that was taken over by the sheriff’s office.
The chase ended when the vehicle crashed in the 2300 block of East 5th Street in Chattanooga.
The driver, identified as Thomas Williams, was taken into custody without further incident.
A search of the vehicle led deputies to recover approximately one ounce of methamphetamine, seven ounces of cocaine, a glass pipe, and $944 in cash.
Williams has been charged with Evading Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, Theft of Property, Driving While in Possession of Methamphetamine, Drugs General Category for Resale, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Investigators also determined Williams had outstanding warrants from Hamilton County Criminal Court, Hamilton County General Sessions Court, and the East Ridge Police Department.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is ongoing, and the information released is preliminary.
